Lewiston Idaho Veterinarian’s Letter to the Editor re: Ebola

The present Ebola crisis in the world is frightening. I have submitted the following letter to the editor of the Lewiston Morning Tribune:

If I wish to import a horse into the United States from Liberia or any African country other than Morocco, the horse needs to undergo a 60 day quarantine period at a USDA approved quarantine facility prior to mingling with the general population of horses in this country. Africa has a disease called African Horse Sickness that does not exist in the US; this is the way we have kept it out of this country. African Horse Sickness does not cause disease in people, only horses; our government has determined that it would be devastating to the US horse industry if it were to come here.

The United States (and virtually all other countries) require a myriad of tests and often quarantine prior to bringing in a foreign animal.

I can’t legally cross state lines in the United States with a horse or cow without a health certificate signed by a USDA accredited veterinarian stating that the animal has been inspected and found free of infectious disease. In most cases blood tests are also required. In fact I can’t legally cross the Snake River and ride my horse in Idaho without a health certificate and a negative blood test for Equine Infectious Anemia.

I’m not complaining; the United States of America, the States of Idaho and Washington as well as the other 48 states take the health of our livestock very seriously, and we have a very good record at keeping foreign animal diseases out of our country. I am happy to do my part to maintain biosecurity in our animal population.

If I am a resident of Liberia incubating Ebola, to enter the United States all I need to do is present a valid visa, and lie when asked if I have been exposed to Ebola. Within hours (no quarantine required) I can be walking the streets of any city in the United States.

I feel very fortunate to live in a country that values our animals so highly.

The Emperor’s New Clothes: The Naked Truth About the American Police State

It’s vogue, trendy and appropriate to look to dystopian literature as a harbinger of what we’re experiencing at the hands of the government. Certainly, George Orwell’s 1984 and Animal Farm have much to say about government tyranny, corruption, and control, as does Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World and Philip K. Dick’sMinority Report. Yet there are also older, simpler, more timeless stories—folk tales and fairy tales—that speak just as powerfully to the follies and foibles in our nature as citizens and rulers alike that give rise to tyrants and dictatorships.
One such tale, Hans Christian Andersen’s fable of the Emperor’s New Clothes, is a perfect paradigm of life today in the fiefdom that is the American police state, only instead of an imperial president spending money wantonly on lavish vacations, entertainment, and questionable government programs aimed at amassing greater power, Andersen presents us with a vain and thoughtless emperor, concerned only with satisfying his own needs at the expense of his people, even when it means taxing them unmercifully, bankrupting his kingdom, and harshly punishing his people for daring to challenge his edicts.
For those unfamiliar with the tale, the Emperor, a vain peacock of a man, is conned into buying a prohibitively expensive suit of clothes that is supposedly visible only to those who are smart, competent and well-suited to their positions. Surrounded by yes men, professional flatterers and career politicians who fawn, simper and genuflect, the Emperor—arrogant, pompous and oblivious to his nudity—prances through the town in his new suit of clothes until a child dares to voice what everyone else has been thinking but too afraid to say lest they be thought stupid or incompetent: “He isn’t wearing anything at all!”
Much like the people of the Emperor’s kingdom, we, too, have been conned into believing that if we say what we fear, if we dare to suggest that something is indeed “rotten in the state of Denmark,” we will be branded idiots and fools by the bureaucrats, corporate heads, governmental elites and media hotshots who have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo—or who at least are determined to maintain the façade that is the status quo. Yet the truth is staring us in the face just as surely as the fact that the Emperor was wearing no clothes.
Truth #1: The U.S. is on the brink of bankruptcy, as many economists have been warning for some time now, with more than $16 trillion in debts owned by foreign nationals and corporations. As one financial news site reports: “Internationally, the world is fed up with The Fed and the U.S. government’s unabashed debt growth. China, Russia, Iran, India and a host of other countries are establishing trade relationships that are bypassing the U.S. dollar altogether, a move that will soon see the world’s reserve currency lose purchasing power and status. In anticipation of this imminent collapse gold is being hoarded by private and public entities from Berlin to Beijing in an effort to preserve wealth before the Tsunami hits.”
Truth #2: We no longer have a government that is “of the people, for the people and by the people.” What we have now is a feudal monarchy, run by wealthy overlords and financed with the blood, sweat and labor of the underclasses who are kept in check by the increasingly militarized police. This sorry state of affairs is reinforced by a study which found that average citizens have “little or no independent influence” on the policy-making process. A similar study published by the Political Research Quarterly revealed that members of the U.S. Senate represent their wealthiest constituents while ignoring those on the bottom rung of the economic ladder.
Truth #3: Far from being a benevolent entity concerned with the well-being of its citizens, whether in matters of health, safety or security, the government is concerned with three things only: power, control and money. As an often quoted adage says, “Government is not reason; it is not eloquent; it is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master.” Unfortunately, the master-servant relationship that once had the government answering to “we the people” has been reversed. Government agents now act as if they are the masters and we are the servants. Nowhere is this more evident than in the transformation of police officers from benevolent keepers of the peace to inflexible extensions of the military hyped up on the power of their badge.
Truth #4: Our primary use to the government is as consumers, worker bees and bits of data to be collected, catalogued, controlled, mined for information, and sold to the highest bidder. Working in cahoots with corporations, the government has given itself carte blanche access to our phone calls, emails, bank transactions, physical movements, even our travels on foot or in our cars. Cybersecurity expert Richard Clarke envisions a future where data about every aspect of our lives will be collected and analyzed. Thus, no matter what the U.S. Supreme Court might have said to the contrary, the government no longer needs a warrant to spy on your cell phone activity or anything else for that matter. As the Washington Post recently revealed, 9 out of 10 people caught up in the NSA’s surveillance net had done nothing wrong to justify such intrusions on their privacy. Clearly, the government now operates relatively autonomously, answering only to itself and unbridled by the courts, Congress, the will of the people or the Constitution.
Truth #5: Whatever problems we are grappling with in regards to illegal immigrants flooding over the borders has little to do with the fact that the borders are porous and everything to do with the government’s own questionable agenda. How is it that a government capable of locking down roads, open seas, and air routes is unable to prevent tens of thousands of women and children from crossing into the U.S. illegally? Conveniently, the Obama administration is asking Congress for $3.8 billion in emergency funding to send more immigration judges to the southern border, build additional detention facilities and add border patrol agents. The funds would be managed by the Departments of Justice, Homeland Security, State and Health and Human Services, the very same agencies responsible for bringing about a rapid shift into a police state.
Truth #6: The U.S. government is preparing for massive domestic unrest, arising most likely from an economic meltdown. The government has repeatedly made clear its intentions, through its U.S. Army War College report alerting the military to prepare for a “violent, strategic dislocation inside the United States,” through its ongoing military drills in cities across the country, through its profiling of potential homegrown “dissidents” or extremists, and through the proliferation of detention centers being built across the country.
Truth #7: As Gerald Ford warned, “A government big enough to give you everything you want is a government big enough to take from you everything you have.” Too often, Americans have fallen prey to the temptation to let the government take care of whatever ails them, whether it be financial concerns, health needs, childcare. As a result, we now find ourselves caught in a Catch-22 situation wherein the government’s so-called solutions to our problems have led to even graver problems. In this way, zero tolerance policies intended to outlaw drugs and weapons in schools result in young children being arrested and kicked out of school for childish behavior such as drawing pictures of soldiers and crying too much; truancy laws intended to keep students in school have resulted in parents being arrested and fined excessively; and zoning laws intended to protect homeowners have been used to prosecute residents who attempt to live off the grid.
Truth #8: The U.S. is following the Nazi blueprint to a “t,” whether through its storm trooper-like police in the form of heavily armed government agents, to its erection of an electronic concentration camp that not only threatens to engulf America but the rest of the world as well via NSA surveillance programs such as Five Eyes. Most damning of all is the Department of Homeland Security’s self-appointed role as a national police force, a.k.a. standing army, the fundamental and final building block for every totalitarian regime that has ever wreaked havoc on humanity. Indeed, just about every nefarious deed, tactic or thuggish policy advanced by the government today can be traced back to the DHS, its police state mindset, and the billions of dollars it distributes to police agencies in the form of grants.
Truth #9: Not only does the U.S. government perpetrate organized, systematic violence on its own citizens, especially those who challenge its authority nonviolently, in the form of SWAT team raids, militarized police, and roaming VIPR checkpoints, but it gets away with these clear violations of the Fourth Amendment because the courts grant them immunity from wrongdoing. Expanding its reach, the U.S. also exports its violence wholesale to other countries through armaments sales and the use of its military as a global police force. Yet no matter how well trained, well equipped and well financed, America cannot police the world. As history shows, military empires, once over extended, inevitably collapse into chaos.
Truth #10: As I make clear in my book A Government of Wolves: The Emerging American Police State, the United States of America has become the new battlefield. In fact, the only real war being fought by the U.S. government today is the war on the American people, and it is being waged with deadly weapons, militarized police, surveillance technology, laws that criminalize otherwise lawful behavior, private prisons that operate on quota systems, and government officials who are no longer accountable to the rule of law.
So there you have it: facts rather than fiction, so naked that a child could call it for what it is, and yet so politically inconvenient, incorrect and uncomfortable that few dare to speak of them.
Even so, despite the fact that no one wants to be labeled dimwitted, or conspiratorial, or a right wing nut job, most Americans, if they were truly paying attention to what’s been going on in this country over the past few decades and willing to be truthful, at least to themselves, would have to admit that the outlook is decidedly grim. Indeed, unless something changes drastically for the good in the near future, it looks like this fairytale will not have a happy ending.

Independence Day Message

Happy Fourth of July to Everyone,
We have much to be thankful for today as we celebrate the 238th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.  We should thank the forces of God and nature which has steered hurricane Arthur out to sea sparing us another direct hit.  We should be thankful for the work of the Supreme Court of the United States over the past several months which has finally begun  to enforce constitutional limits on the power of the executive branch in the NLRB case and the Hobby Lobby case.  We should be thankful for each other, never doubt yourselves or our mission to restore personal freedom and individual liberty as the keystone of good governance.  We who were fortunate enough to come of age during the most prosperous and opportunity driven era in human history, in the most prosperous and opportunity driven nation that has ever existed should count our blessings.  We became complacent however, and allowed our comfortable lives to erode our wariness regarding the march of an up to now “soft tyranny”. The expansion of federal power has reached levels that would have shocked Jefferson, Henry, Franklin, and Adams. We must be adamant in saying no more.
Today however; celebrate the greatness of our nation, and our Founding Fathers who have proven over the past 238 years to have been the wisest, most thoughtful, and least avaricious political leaders that has ever gathered in one time and one place.
“We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness – that to secure these rights governments are instituted among men deriving their just powers from the consent of the Governed….all experience has shown that Mankind are more disposed to suffer, while evils are sufferable, than to right themselves by abolishing the Forms to which they are accustomed.”
This is the good news and the bad news in the 2nd paragraph of this great document.

Incredible Disrespect for America = BOYCOTT

It’s time to boycott Mexican goods! No cruises or trips to Mexican resorts and NO MEXICAN fruits or veggies in your shopping cart!

Mexico had stringent border security until the recent migration of ‘Dreamers’ started. For whatever reason, Mexico’s enforcement suddenly ceased in order to allow hordes of  youngsters to migrate north crossing the entire length of Mexico to get to the US border where the children turn themselves over to the US Border Patrol to claim asylum or refugee status.  The explanation of why Mexico has facilitated this illegal activity has not been revealed.

In the meantime, an ex-Marine, Andrew Tahmooressi,  accidentally took a wrong turn and ended up at the Mexican border patrol checkpoint. Trying to be honest and forthright, he explained his error and that he had a gun in his vehicle. He was taken to jail and has been there since April.

More than 125,000 people have signed a White petition asking the Obama Administration to make an effort to get Tahmooressi released. In spite of their statement that says


If a petition meets the signature threshold, it will be reviewed by the Administration and we will issue a response.


No response has been received in over a month.

Ronald Reagan advised “When you can’t make them see the light, make them feel the heat.”

Who, Exactly, is the Tea Party Fighting?

Since 2007, the media has been asking, “Who is the Tea Party”? Are we Ron Paul supporters, racists, Christians, Libertarians, bigots, Republicans, God-lovers and gun-clingers (or was it gun-lovers and God-clingers?), terrorists, or anarchists? I think America now understands who the Tea Party is; we’re Libertarians, Independents, and Conservatives bound together by our appreciation for the United States’ Constitution and by our belief in Private Property Rights, in Federalism, and Limited Government. Every “Tea Party” person I have met knows who they are; but not every Tea Party person I’ve met knows who they are fighting.

With unbelievable speed, the media (and many new-comers to the Tea Party) have forgotten which President spawned the Tea Party. It was not President Barack Obama and David Axelrod. It was the policies of President George W. Bush and Karl Rove. At the time, we all knew that the Bush Administration had lost their collective mind. We understood the crisis and the danger, but we didn’t understand how a Republican President could essentially suspend the US Constitution, invade the private sector, and increase federal powers more than any previous administration since Teddy and Franklin Roosevelt.

We’ve learned a lot since 2008.

Who did the Bush Administration protect during the financial meltdown? He protected the interests of two distinct, and on occasion overlapping, interests: Wall Street and The Chamber of Commerce. The fiscal crisis was robust, and soon we had a new President and a new agenda. However, the Obama Administration kept President Bush’s Federal Reserve, kept a lot of the high stakes corporate players, but explained to them that an era of regulation was on the way. Wall Street and the Chamber of Commerce do not shy away from regulation. In fact, they embrace it; because only they can afford it!

So as dawn peaked out from behind the darkness of our financial meltdown, the very varmints that caused it not only didn’t die, but rose into the daylight stronger and more powerful than before. They used all that federal bailout capital to purchase smaller companies that could not afford the exorbitant price of petitioning the Bush Administration for political protection, nor afford the high costs of expensive Obama Administration regulations. Smaller companies… sound, well-run, responsible companies were purchased and scuttled, or absorbed into the politically conscious and relevant Wall Street and Chamber of Commerce membership elites.

These are our Corporatist foes. If you don’t understand Corporatism, then I suggest learning about it the way I learned about it. In future posts I will admit my sins and explain the many ways in which I was duped by frauds in both parties, but I will share with you my secret formula for predicting how (and why) politicians vote the way they vote. Your time is precious, please understand I explain this only as an efficient means to answer the question, “Who exactly is the Tea Party Fighting?”.

If your Representative or Senator is a committee leader, then they report to either Congressman Boehner or Congresswoman Pelosi, Senator Reid or Senator McConnell. They hold their positions at the whim of these four powerful congressional power-brokers. If you are represented by people heading any of Washington’s powerful committees, do not be surprised that your interests are rarely represented.

If your Representative or Senator is politically ambitious, in the traditional sense, then they will vote however the Chairman or Woman in charge of their committees or sub-committees tell them to vote; which means they also vote in line with Boehner, Pelosi, Reid, and McConnell. (Research the votes on the “Clean CR” that just made its way to the Oval Office).

If they actually Represent your State or your District, then you will notice discrepancies between your Party’s Leadership and your Senators or Congressmen’s voting records. Do not be fooled into think that this makes your Senator or Congressmen a “maverick” or a woman of the people. If you are at least lucky enough to establish that the men and women representing you in Congress aren’t beholden to Party Leadership, in either Party, then you are still responsible for discovering to whom they are beholden. This can be done by researching the PACs and Special Interests that give them money. (There are twenty or so excellent resources, is one of several excellent resources).

Then you need to research the constituency to which you belong. Even if you hate what your Senator or Congresswoman does, are they representing your district, or not? There is some honor in little “d” democracy.

You must understand, that your politicians work very hard to serve someone. If it isn’t you, it is surely someone else. A responsible citizenry knows the answer to this question and The Tea Party is the rebirth of a Responsible Citizenry.

Who are we fighting? We are fighting Statists and Corporatists, we are fighting average men and women who just sort of found their way into politics, but enjoy playing the Game of Thrones, and we are fighting our fellow Americans, upon whose consent this corrupt system has been allowed to stand! We know who we are. I’ve explained who we are fighting. I’ve explained how to research whether or not your representatives are a part of the problem. I shall close with this:

America was built on the minds of humble men, who studied and pondered the brilliance of the philosophers and thinkers that came before them. They embraced the Enlightenment (which means that they embraced the rational interpretation of human experience) and they rejected the folly of Idealism. This means that the Tea Party isn’t just fighting the men and women with agendas. We are fighting the ignorance of the citizenry, which makes these men and women of agendas possible. My friends, we are fighting ignorance, which means we must be teachers, researchers, and thinkers.

The Beatles taught us that money can’t buy you love. Well, money can’t buy you Reason either. We must become ambassadors of reason, if we want to save our country, our culture, and ourselves from this frighteningly monstrous Leviathan which seeks to make each of us and our families, stand down and submit to Hegel’s and Marx’s political and historical inevitability! We must teach each other, we must teach our children, we must teach our co-workers, and acquaintances. Please, take this to heart, because above all, we must teach ourselves. I speak from personal experience, our own ignorance is our worst enemy.

Advice from a Fine Mind!

The Tea Party will not win an election without the Republican Party and the Republican Party will not win an election unless they work with the Tea Party.  The idea for the coming months is to grow both.  Membership is key.


1.    Our focus should be winning the elections this fall.

2.    Lay aside pending legislation, ditches, rainwater taxes and other side-tracking endeavors.  After we win the Senate back we will have the means to void all the inane laws.

  •   Have only one person track each concern while the rest of us concentrate on growing the membership
  •   That person lets us know what we need to do.

3.    Hand out Tea Party Patriots business card sized invitations to our website and meetings.  All of us should have a hundred of them.

  •   The Gadsden Flag license plate is the most popular plate in the state.  There are 25,000 out there.  When you see a car in a parking lot with one, put the card under the windshield wiper.
  •   If you see a plate on a car in front of you while driving, follow them to their destination and give them a card.  I have done it several times with success.
  •   If you see a Gadsden Flag flying from a home by the road, stop and visit.
  •   A, B and C apply to anyone with a Bush, McCain, Romney etc. bumper sticker on their car or a NoBama, Abolish the IRS etc.

4.    Place signs like DeWitt’s sign at Ward’s Corner in 10 places in Gloucester, 10 in Mathews and 10 in Middlesex.

  •   Do this all the time for burning issues and during primaries and general elections.
  •   Put up the opponents voting record or stand on an issue.

5.    Join a local club or organization.  Get to know people outside your usual circle.  Don’t talk politics unless they bring it up.

  •  Lions
  •  Rotary
  •  Ruritan
  •  Garden
  •  Women’s
  •  Etc.
  •  Become a Den Mother or Volunteer in the Schools.
  •  Fill in

Our America depends on you to defend her.  Our best defense is growing our numbers.


Do NOT be lazy……be PROUD that you stood in the gap and saved America.

Loss of disposable income for Middle Class will be a problem

In the previous article we talked about why Obamacare must be repealed.  The article mentioned the loss of disposable income for the middle class.  Let us look at an example of why that will be a problem.

Let us use an example of a person who is earning $40,000 a year.  That person will pay roughly 25% of his income in state, local, and federal taxes.  This leaves $30,000 as his spendable income.  Divide that by 12 and they will have roughly $2,500 to spend each month.  That person will need a place to live so deduct $1,000 for rent or the mortgage payment.  They will need to get to and from work.  Most people will have about a $350 dollar car payment and will spend $200 more  on car insurance and gas/maintenance.

Now that they have a place to live and are able to get to work they will need to eat. Eating will take about $300 a month.  Keeping the phone, lights, and heat on will cost about $250 a month more.  At this point they have consumed $2,100 out of their $2,500 budget.  If they had a low cost health care plan that cost them $200 a month they would still have $200 dollars a month left over for optional purchases.  Paying an additional $200 a month for an “improved” Obamacare plan will take away all of their disposable income.

Not only will it take away all of their disposable income, these people will have nothing left over to pay the deductible.  These people will be unable to afford access to health care under Obamacare unless they put it on a credit card.  This will make health care 20% more expensive for them because of the interest rate on the card.   Of course they can always make sacrifices by finding a cheaper place to live (if they rent).  These people can not do anything about their vehicle expense, the old loan will be folded into the new loan for a cheaper car leaving them paying more for a lesser vehicle.

They probably would be able to eat a little cheaper, but again not as good.  Will forcing the middle class to pay extra for health insurance to provide health insurance for others improve the lives of the middle class or make those lives a little more desperate.  Most people in the middle class are not looking to feel better about themselves by providing free health care to others. People in the middle class are already living right on the edge of their finances and do not have the room in their budget  to pay the Obamacare tax.  This is the laws biggest drawback, the writers of the law have taken for granted that the middle class has the room in its budget to afford the Obamacare tax increase.  This money is just not there.
